Patagonia

Patagonia is a region located in the southern part of South America. Patagonia is a part of the territory of Argentina and Chile and can be found in Neuquen, Rio Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego. In Argentina, Patagonia extends south of the river Colorado between the Andes and the Atlantic Ocean and covers up to the Tierra del Fuego. The region is a land of rugged beauty and wilderness, great for hiking and other outdoor pursuits.

Since its discovery by Bruce Chatwin, the mere mention of Patagonia awakes the fascination of the remote, pure and unknown. The Argentine Patagonia can be divided into four smaller travel destinations, each with its own unique style to entice its visitor. They are Southern Patagonia, The Lake Region, Tierra del Fuego and Atlantic Patagonia. Patagonia covers one third of Argentina, and takes in some of the highest peaks, several of the world’s most remarkable glaciers, forest ancient trees, and fossil-rich coastal cliffs.

You won’t find any big cities in Patagonia the closest thing that you may find is the ski resort in Bariloche. Patagonia’s main attractions are the Tierra del Fuego, the Ephemeral Lakes, the Torres del Paine National Park, Glacieres National Park near Chile, and most importantly the glacier, Perito Moreno, which attracts visitors in very large numbers. The region also has a unique coastal wildlife and the Valdes Peninsula, is covered with marine life and amazing beauty. An energetic nature is inflicted on the visitors in the eastern dry plateaus, deep valleys and canyons, like those in the western mountain ranges, with the crowns of snow and scattered glaciers and lakes which are some of the most beautiful in the world.

Outdoor activities in the Patagonia region of Argentina and Chile are numerous. These include horseback riding, family fly fishing, trekking, rafting and boating. You can also explore the Museo Llelque which is a museum close to El Bolson.

In Patagonia, there are lots of unique and tasteful things to eat. Unique to the region is the cordero, lamb, which has a distinctive blend of herbs that can only be found in Patagonia, thereby giving it a very unique taste. There are also many Argentine desserts available like Dulce de leche and alfajores which are traditional cookies. So if you want to make your vacation a more fun filled and unforgettable one, then Patagonia is the place to visit since it is a land of many activities and beauty.
